I didn’t know Ricky that well. But back in the day I remember gigging with “Emptifish” and partying with Ricky and the boys.
Ricky was an all round good bloke and he will be greatly missed.
Respect to you
Tommo
I have know the boys for over 25yrs, they played at my 19th birthday on a boat full of punks in the solent, they were edgy, stylish and unique with a sound that made the crowds go literally wild. Their gigs were always memorable for reasons both good and bad (exciting bad!)
Losing Ricky Sonic like this has hit everyone hard, in recent years we have enjoyed reliving the past as they reformed and performed again around Portsmouth. Ricky Hayes is well respected amongst the portsmouth punk scene, he is a man who loved his family, enjoyed his friends and offered cool and consistent rocking out through his baselines and personality.
The band are like brothers and through all the major events, adventures and challenges they have been there for each other, it is a strong bond with a link missing now. It is inconceivable at this time, just what an impact losing Rick has had on the community, we have lost an incredible man who has been part of forming a legacy which is the pompey punk scene, we are all devastated and confused as to why this could happen. Our thoughts are with his family, we will ensure that his little girl and his boys know what a wonderfully exciting life their dad made for himself and shared with us all. Ricky, thanks for the music x
